Grace Hackfield is a writer, editor, and lifelong puzzle-maker — the mind behind Worthy Puzzle's large-print word search books, cryptograms, and mazes. She has always been happiest somewhere between a sentence and a grid: turning words over, looking for the hidden shape inside them, and building small puzzles that are a pleasure to sit with.
Her love of language started early — long afternoons with crosswords at the kitchen table, a dictionary kept close not out of obligation but out of curiosity. That habit grew into a career spent close to words, and eventually into a simple idea: that a puzzle book should be as thoughtfully made as anything else you keep on the shelf. Generous print. Worthy Puzzle grew out of a frustration Grace heard again and again — that most puzzle books were cramped, random, and hard on the eyes. So she set out to make the opposite: books typeset for clear reading from the very first sketch, each one built around a single subject you can lose an afternoon in. National parks. Classic cars. The places, pastimes, and people worth a second look.
She writes with a care readers tend to describe as "warm," "unhurried," and "genuinely easy on the eyes." Every theme is researched and curated by hand, so that solving a Worthy Puzzle book leaves you knowing a little more than when you started.
When she isn't building puzzles, Grace can usually be found with a strong cup of tea, a stack of half-read books, and a pencil within reach — already thinking about the next theme.
